Recent History (updated 2015/08/25)
The winter 2005-06 took a huge toll in that all but one of the houses closed. It was hoped that once warmer weather returned, at least some of these closed brothels might reopen. But as of the summmer of 2006, none had. Finally, in the late fall of that year, the Cozy was reopened as The Wild West Saloon and was operated daily on a limited hours basis. Then in the spring of 2007, the Villa Joy and it's adjoining gentlemen's club (now called the Black Pearl Club) reopened, but only on three nights each week. But before long, some of those operations closed once again, and except for The Pussycat Ranch (which had remained open throughout), one could never seemingly know which houses were open for business on The Line.
In October 2007, all five brothels on "The Line", along with the gentlemen's club, were sold to new owners. On the 29th of that month, Madame Deb, one of the individuals involved in the purchase, posted on C.W. Monger's Message Board (here at sex-in-nevava.com) that the deal had closed and that they should have the Pussycat's website operational again in the next few days (it was, but remained "under construction" as they rearranged its prior content and added new). She stated at that time that they planed on reopening a couple more of the brothels and the gentlemen's club soon (the Wild West and Villa Joy did; with the Black Pearl following on a limited schedule). Deb also indicated that the structures housing My Place and Simone's de Paris had both been deemed beyond repair and would shortly be torn down. Deb then said that she and Ben (her partner) eventually hoped to be able to construct a single new building to house one or both of those operations.
However, the Great Recession of 2008-10 took a heavy toll, and reports in the fall of 2009 were that the two remaining brothels that had been open in Winnemucca were closed and rumoured to be in forclosure. On October 16, 2009, it was reported in the Humboldt Sun that all the properties of The Line were to be sold at auction on October 29, 2009. These former businesses and the real estate they occupy were indeed sold on that date to a new owner.
On December 29, 2009, "Brothelmaster", the new owner of the properties on The Line in Winnemucca reported on C.W. Monger's Message Board (here at sex-in-nevava.com) that he would reopen the Villa Joy on Monday, January 4, 2010. His new website, http://www.pussycatbrothel.com, confirms that the adjacent Black Pearl Gentlemen's Club has been renamed as the Red Light Lounge and is also open for business once again. He has also stated that he hopes to reopen the Wild West Saloon (possibly under a leased arrangement) in the near future and had plans to rebuild the Pussycat Ranch at some point in time.
On April 24, 2010, I received an e-mail from Madame Deb indicating that The Wild West Saloon reopened for business as a legal brothel on March 24, 2010. The Wild West and the Villa Joy continue to share a common website, http://www.pussycatbrothel.com, which she stated was "under renovation" at that time. She also stated the the Pussycat itself may be rebuilt "next year" (2011) if things go well. However, that did not occur as planned. In the summer of 2015, the Villa Joy was closed for "renovations", with a stated reopening date of January 2016. It has been reported that their phone number is still active, but redirects to the remaining open brothel, The wild West. Stay tuned for further developments!

The brothel "district" in Winnemucca was located on Riverside Street, just north of downtown. Since the construction of Interstate 80 in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Riverside no longer lives up to its name, as the elevated freeway separates and isolates it from the south bank of the Humboldt River. This district, which is known as "The Line", was once home to five brothels and one adult lap dance (i.e., "gentlemen's") club. However, during recent years hard times have resulted in all of the formerly independent adult businesses on The Line coming under a single common ownership. In October 2007, they were all collectively sold to new owners, Ben and Deb, who had subsequently torn down two of the dilapidated structures housing brothels that were not operating, and had also torn down the Pussycat with hopes of rebuilding it in a more modern structure. However, the economic recession of 2008-09 has now apparently claimed all the houses of The Line, with the final two open houses closing by the Fall of 2009. An auction took place on October 29, 2009 and the properties were sold. Two of the houses reopened under this new ownership in the first quarter of 2010, but as of the summer of 2015, only one remains open for business, the other being closed for "renovataions" until at least January 2016.
"The Line" in Winnemucca:
Baud Street is situated two blocks northeast of Melarkey Street (which carries U.S. 95 northwest of Third Street). Once southwest of Melarkey, Third Street is designated as U.S. 95, which eventually becomes West Winnemucca Boulevard before its junction with I-80 at Exit 176. To the northeast of that same intersection, Third St is Nevada 289, which meets up with I-80 at Exit 178. Third Street is also the Historic Route of U.S. 40.

Historical Notes:
The "gentlemen's club" protion of this operation, the Red Light Lounge, was previously known as the Black Pearl Club, and prior to that, as the Paradise Café.
The Villa Joy brothel is immediately west of (and connected to) the Red Light Lounge, a "gentlemen's lap dance" club. Both establishments are part of the Pussycat family of adult businesses in Winnemucca, reopening in late April 2007 after extensive remodeling (and a name change for the strip club, from the Paradise Café to the Black Pearl Club). Both are found on the south side of The Line, in between the now leveled Simone's (to the west) and the Wild West Saloon (to the east - in the red building that used to be known as the Cozy Corner). The Villa Joy is housed in a one-story tan and brown structure with a red-on-white neon sign above its entrance. The Red Light Lounge is found in a somewhat boxier structure next door, with a distinctive 30-panel window next to its front door. These two adult businesses were reopened three nights a week during the early portion of 2007, but subsequently closed once again. They were then sold, along with the entire Pussycat operation, and the new owners (Ben & Deb) subsequently reopened both operations. Because they closed the neighboring Pussycat (in the spring of 2008) to allow for the replacement of its building, some of that brothel's ladies moved over to the Villa Joy. But by October 2009, these properties had all been closed and were then auctioned off. Their newest owner has now renamed the former Black Pearl Club as the Red Light Lounge, and also reopened the Villa Joy brothel on Monday, January 4, 2010. As of Autumn 2011, the Villa Joy was reportedly the only brothel still operating on The Line, though the Wild West was to be reopened if additional ladies choose to work in Winnemucca. It later did, and by the summer of 2105, the ladies working at the Villa Joy were transferred to The Wild West so this property could be renovated.

Elevation: 4268'
Historical Note:
This brothel was previously known as: The Cozy Corner, Penny's Cozy Corner, and Bill's Cozy Corner.
Located in a two-story red structure just east of the Red Light Lounge (and across the street from the former site of the Pussycat), the Wild West remains a part of the Pussycat family of adult businesses in Winnemucca. After being acquired by the group's owner at that time, this brothel reopened in October of 2000 under the unprefixed Cozy Corner name. However, by December 2005 business had fallen off to the point that this house was again closed. After nearly two years of being shuttered, it was reopened briefly once more - this time under a completely new name, The Wild West Saloon. But it closed again briefly prior to the sale of the entire Pussycat operation in October 2007. In early November 2007, the new owners (Ben & Deb) reopened the Wild West. And when the Pussycat itself was closed in the spring of 2008 to facilitate the replacement of its building, some of that brothel's ladies relocated across the street to the Wild West. But by October 2009, this brothel was closed and up for auction.
Subsequently sold, the new/current owner(s) of the Wild West repoened this establishment on March 24, 2010. (Madame) Deb is still the magager, but has told me that her former partner "Ben is no longer involved in the business". She further stated that, "It is my intention to rebuild the Pussycat next year (2011) if business and the ecomony allows." I don't know if she is speaking as the owner, or on his/her/their behalf, but it is clear that she is ramping the operation back up, which would have been good news for all the houses of The Line as well as for residents and visitors in this north-central Nevada town. However, by Autumn of 2011 this house was once again reported to be closed, leaving the Villa Joy as the only operating house on The Line. This establishment eventually reopened and with the summer 2015 closing of the Villa Joy for renovations, it now becomes the sole open brothel in Winnemucca, at least until January 2016, when the Villa Joy is scheduled to reopen after its latest remodeling.

Formerly the only independent brothel in town (i.e., not affiliated with the ownership group of the Pussycat Ranch), My Place stands at the entrance to The Line, in a building with white siding and no awning. According to a report from "Mikey" posted on Sex-In-Nevada in mid-January 2005, this brothel was boarded up and closed after reportedly having suffered a electrical fire. Over two years later, its future remained very cloudy. As of April 2007, the Pussycat Ranch's website indicated that their owner(s) had purchased this property, though there were no indications that it was open for business or would be anytime soon. In October 2007, it was sold (along with the other adult businesses on The Line), to new owners who have deemed its building unsalvagable and had it demolished in early 2008. The fate of the brothel license remains unclear, but the most recent owners had indicated the possibility of an eventual common replacement structure for this house and the adjoining Simone's de Paris, which was torn down concurrently with My Place. The vacant lots on which these two properties were located were subsequently used for parking. All those plans are now moot with the closure and sale of the other properties on The Line.
The Pussycat Ranch - CLOSED and its building DEMOLISHED

Alternately known as the Pussycat Saloon (which is what its prominent, diamond-shaped sign said) and the Pussycat Brothel, this was once the flagship operation of the now five brothels and one strip club which in recent years shared common ownership along The Line in Winnemucca. It stood alone on the north side of Riverside, across that short street from the other houses, in a one-story off-white building with brown trim. Until the Spring of 2008, it was the only brothel in town to have not recently been closed for any period of time. The structure housing the Pussycat was claimed to be one of the older brothels in the state, and featured an large, ornate bar.
In October of 2007, this brothel and the other adult businesses of The Line were collectively sold to new owners, Ben and Deb, who subsequently discovered structural deficiencies requiring complete replacement of the Pussycat's building. So this brothel was closed in the early Spring of 2008, and its ladies were reassigned to their other two houses remaining open at that time - the Villa Joy and the Wild West. Demolition on the Pussycat occurred during the last week of April 2008. Construction of the new facility was to have followed shortly thereafter, with hopes that the "new" Pussycat could be ready to resume operation sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2008. But due to financial constraints that never occurred. Sold along with the rest of the properties on The Line at auction in late 2009, its current owner eventually hopes to rebuild this house. But for now, the site sits unused. However, a variation of the name (PussyCat) is still used on the common website for the remaining two houses, the Villa Joy and the Wild West, likely for marketing reasons, as this was the oldest and best known of all the brothels of The Line.
Address Note: On their previous websites, the Pussycat was incorrectly listed as being at "40 Riverside Drive". In reality, the property is physically located at 35 Riverside Street. Because it sits across the Street (not Drive) from the other houses on The Line, it must have an odd (not even) numbered address. The common website for the remaining houses lists their street address as "139 Baud Street", which is actually the enrtrance to the entire district known as "The Line".
Simone's de Paris - CLOSED and its building DEMOLISHED

Reopened in July 2001, Simone's was located just east of My Place, on the south side of Riverside Street, and was the second brothel property you encountered along The Line. The building looked similar to its predecessor, save for an awning, a stone facade in its center section, and its distinctive red and blue sign. However, like its neighbor to the west, it is now just a memory. The eventual fate of this house was sealed with the sale of the entire Pussycat family of adult businesses, which now constitute all of the establishments on The Line, to new owners Ben and Deb in October 2007. Upon inspection of the property, they announced that the structures housing both Simone's and My Place were too far gone to salvage and would soon face a date with the wrecker's ball (or bulldozer). That occurred in early 2008, and the lot on which it sat is presently vacant and has been most recently used for parking. Their long-range plans called for a single common structure to eventually replace both demolished houses, but it is unclear if their brothel licenses were to have been combined into a single entity or if there would've been two distinct operations to be housed in the proposed single new building. All that is now moot with the closure and sale of the other properties on The Line.
