Good thought shooter and glad it worked for you.

Just did a trial doing just as you did, saw the messages old to new. Clicked on the arrow to sort new to old. Exited the messages and scanned a few posts, returned to messages and found them back old to new. So howerver your getting them to remain changed must be doing something I'm not, as just clicking on the arrow doesn't seem to work for me.

You need to go into your profile settings under "Look and Layout Preferences" and click on the box to "Show most recent personal messages at top".  Then save the settings by clicking on the "Change Profile" button in the lower right portion of screen.

This should make it permanently save those settings.

Click on the attachment to see the settings.

Thanks, afriend. I just experimented with the PM system using the PM's that some people sent me to see how it works and, for me, it does keep them sorted with the newest PMs first. My profile settings were previously set as you described above which explains why my PMs remain sorted (newest first).

Bones, just follow the steps that afriend outlined above. That's what I had to do to get the PM system to remember the sort order I wanted (i.e. newest first), even if I log off and log back in. If I uncheck that checkbox that afriend is referring to, then the PM system works the same for me as you described. Shortly after signing up for this forum, I set my profile preferences as afriend described in the quoted text above so that my PMs would always be listed with newest first, which is how I prefer PM's (as well as posts) to be listed when logged into this site.

I check my layout preferences, I do not have the box for show newest posts at top checked. My messages still have the newest at the top, even after going back in 6 hours later.
I can't type very good, and my spelling is not the best, but my computer ignorance lets me be happy and not worry about the little things.

Well shooter guess when we meet up again we'll have to fire up the laptops side by side and compare settings. I've just tried it again and it still keeps switching back to default old to new listing for the inbox.

Should have at least kept it for the short look at another thread and back to the pm system but no such luck. Less than 30 seconds between looks bad performance, can't even hold the setting while logged in for that currect session, something must be wrong somewhere along the line.

Appears from your discription without fully comparing as stated above we're using the same ones.

Do you have your browser set to reject all cookies?

Don't know for sure but I suspect that the forum settings are stored in the cookies. If you do have yours set to reject all cookies then you could make an exception for the sex-in-nevada.net cookie then set your preferences and see if they stick.

OFM good idea but likely not the cause as my cookies are only cleared when I close the browser. Not all are rejected either as I recall settings when last checked. I've also experienced trouble just viewing a message and returning to the list at times the sort reverts back to default. Been this way since the very first time I used the message system here. So missing cookies doesn't explain why the sort order isn't retained even for the current session.

The current system has been the pits for me, hate the way it displays messages. I prefer just a list of messages only, much like viewing a section of the main board; where the messages are then like individual separate threads.

Add 12/1

I did a test to see if cookies might be the issue. Without additional data otherwise have ruled cookies out as possible cause. Reason is that loggin is stored as a cookie likely, and going to another site and not logging out, upon returning find still loggen in. This is done while in the same web session (not closing browser, end connection).
