The trip began early around 7am. A few minutes in had to slow down a doe mule
deer was being undecided whether to cross the road, but did. Passing the
Little Sahara sand dunes area followed by leaving the pavement saw antelope a
nice buck laying in the grass alone. Going over the pass saw doe antelope and
then another appeared running through the dried cheat grass.
Doing a tad of shack rattle roll alone a small side two track arrived at a
location I'd not been to in years. The old mind was accurate and did find the
old digging, collected several samples. As some more thought is needed the
crystals if still any there will await another visit. The area is steep and
rocky and given the type of rock hiking can be tricky.
After a short break visited the site of some mining activity. Its changed
since my last visit the head-frame, hoist, and wooden building are gone. The
one shaft is covered by a metal grate, but some old mine ore car rail remains.
Returning back to the better gravel road saw the one antelope buck hadn't
moved but there appeared another slightly larger buck. After looking at the
bucks made a stop at location where a person from UT history had a small ranch
spot.
Stopped for lunch up by a pond, while eating watched some fish jump for
insects. There was a fair amount of water and the overflow was allowing a nice
stream to run.
ON the way from lunch to the main highway (10-20 miles) notice livestock
(cattle as much of this area is owned privately, but they allow public easy
access). The animals were in great shape for range animals, thick smooth
bodies with the younger showing good growth/development.
Didn't see any wild horses not many in the area visited. But saw some ranch
horses in a pasture area, good fit condition ready for riding and working
stock.
