I've considered franchise operations in the past, but I've yet to find one that meets my criteria. Typically they're all "food for the masses" with occasional items that stand out. Mind you, that the point of a franchise - you should get the same items regardless of where you order.
In my opinion, I'm more willing to take the gamble and put it all out there on my own. That way the menu can be tailored to the tastes and desires of the local clients.
BBQ in particular is a bit odd. People in one region swear by a dish. A short distance away, people have different tastes...
