So a couple of casual comments I’ve made seem to have been helpful to some, so I thought I’d post a more thorough guide on the mystery Priceline Hotels. With gas prices the way they are many people need to cut back, here’s a good way to save money without sacrificing.
With Priceline’s mystery hotels they tell you an area that you will stay in, the star rating of the hotel, some of the amenities, and possibly a picture of the room. The rate will be lower than any published rate for that hotel that you could find, the catch is that you have to pay before they tell you what hotel it is, and if you don’t like it, or decide to cancel your trip… NO REFUNDS.
To find these just go to Priceline.com, search Elko, NV and filter by express deals.
There is absolutely NO WAY to make this guide 100% accurate. Hotels change, amenities change, new hotels get added, the hotels for 1 night in advance might be different than 1 month in advance etc. I looked at some random dates and here are the mystery hotels I found, along with the nightly rates (mystery & non mystery) at the time. I may add to this list from time to time as I find more. Also to note: when you visit the Priceline page, it will tell you what hotel someone recently got. This is not a 100% accurate way to predict. Even just now, Ramada came up on Best Westerns page, and Comfort Inn came up on both Days Inn and Holiday Inn Express’s pages.
Rating: 2.5 Star Casino
Name: Super 8
Identifiers: Humongous picture of steamboat
Price (regular/mystery): $40/$34
Notes: I have absolutely no idea what casino they are referring to with this place. It’s a little bit of a walk to both Gold Country and Maverick, so unless there’s some small casino in the lobby I don’t know, but I’m certain this is the right hotel. To put things in perspective, Hampton is not a casino hotel despite being in the parking lot of Gold Dust West. This hotel is ideal for those taking the SLC shuttle, which drops off at Maverick.
Rating: 2 Star
Name: Travelodge
Identifiers: Very dark room picture, closest one to the camera has a deer
Price (regular/mystery): $36/$32
Notes: pretty much attached to the Super 8, so this is also ideal for you SLC shuttle travelers.
Rating: 2.5 Star
Name: Days Inn
Identifiers: “Free on the go breakfast”
Price (regular/mystery): $47/$38
Notes: Another good one for those taking the SLC Shuttle, but a little bit closer to the houses
Rating: 3 Star
Name: Best Western
Identifiers: Room picture has 3 lamps, 4 pillows and an alarm clock on the far right of the picture.
Price (regular/mystery): $123/$101
Notes: Also pretty close to Maverick for the SLC shuttle, but kind of a long walk from the houses
Rating: 3 Star Casino
Name: Ramada Inn at Stockmens Casino
Identifiers: 3 Star Casino hotel with free breakfast, room picture has salmon colored chair off to the right
Price (regular/mystery): $75/$54
Notes: Closest hotel to the houses. This tends to be the hotel of choice for most mongers
Rating: 2 Star
Name: Rodeway Inn
Identifiers: Ceiling fan in room picture
Price (regular/mystery): $59/$47
Notes: Another somewhat good one for SLC Express, in this case it’s closer to the houses than the others.
Rating: 2 Star Casino
Name: Americas Best Value Inn at Gold Country Casino
Identifiers: Lamp with horse base
Price (regular/mystery): $63/$52
Notes: Adjacent to Maverick for SLC Express
Rating: 2.5 Star
Name: Holiday Inn Express
Identifiers: Only picture is close up of pillows
Price (regular/mystery): $135/$103
Notes: This is actually the one I’m least sure about. Regardless it’s the furthest of these hotels from the houses and the also the most expensive, so you probably wouldn’t want this one anyway.
Battle Mountain
Rating: 2 star
Name: Super 8 (Battle Mountain)
Identifiers: Picture of Mirror in bathroom
Price (regular/mystery): $110/$80
Notes: Just an option for those who are going to Desert Club
Happy travels everyone!
