I find it a bad deal, why if the room is $55 does it suddenly become nearly double in price for 2 nights. It costs the same to provide the room so why the need to jack the rate?

I've been to places and gotten the same room rate everyday not yo-yo pricing.

A campground with an RV would be far cheaper.

A cabin at Tahoe would be nice.

Think of it this way, they aren't raising rates on the weekend they are lowering rates during the week to entice people to stay there during those slow days when they have trouble filling the rooms. It's similar to restaurants that offer specials Sunday through Thursday and discontinue them for Friday and Saturday.  They have plenty of people eating out on Friday and Saturday so they are trying to encourage people to eat out during their slow days.

An interesting question. Does anyone know if the field of microeconomics has ever addressed it?

This is what I get for trying to do a good deed for friends.
That being said I live a hour from Vegas. Casino hotel rooms average around $30 a night here, except for the weekend of the NASCAR Race in Las Vegas, then they are $149 a night. Pure supply and demand.

Well I keep getting the same old excuses and poor reasoning.

IB's reverse pricing and shooter's supply and demand, both don't explain nor justify this.

I get the impression its making the little guy pay extra so to cover the comp rooms given special people who could fully pay for it. They still make money on the room on the other days so why the 2X+ in rate on weekends. Its better to have a full (yes even on those sold out dates they keep a few rooms available) than have unused rooms?

IB's example of eating places isn't accurate as some can and do have specials on weekends which don't happen during the weekdays. Maybe he needs to find other places to dine out at.

I wish that we could buy our own mini hotel with around 25-30 rooms, include a mini-bar in the rooms, A pool, a jacuzzi, racquetball, General conference/Banquet area, Full shared kitchen, French and Latina maids (possibly with benefits-ymmv), and a group chef that is active during our gatherings.  We only pay a semi-annual "Club" fee (around $2000 total a year) for the place and taxes.  Then pay for separate food /maintenance/cleaning costs which is cheaper in the long run, and make it close enough to the casinos and far enough to the brothels to make a decerning gentleman think before visiting.

Once that sucker ( or your individual room is paid off), and the common areas are nicely appointed, it becomes like a time-share or a condo and the annual fee goes down to taxes and maint for those that have paid up to a certain amount.  If you want your room to be upgraded, then upgrade your own damn room, sell it like a time-share or condo.  It's yours.

We could call it the KSF condo and I think dudes would be beating down the doors to become a club member!

I would be happy to pay $2000 a year for 10 years to get that kind of place, along with a fee for onsite services whenever I (or a friend that I rent it out to) visited and common areas maintenance costs.

Sum rough Math:

$2000 x 10 years = $20,000 invested
$20,000 x 20 rooms = $400,000,  $20,000 x 30 rooms =$600,000 = more than enough to pay taxes and mortgage.

After you've paid off your room, Annual maintenance of say $1000 a year times 20 rooms is enough for taxes and common areas maintenance.  30 rooms is even more.  If ya want to share it out to someone, then rent out your room for $500 a week (or more) to recapture your investment and fees.

The caretaker / attendent would live there gratis 24/7

Changes/additions/services to common areas would be subject to 2/3 majority vote.

eh... it's just a dream.
