Quick August Vegas Trip

I finally got my august august review of the party I had with Bailey sent up.  Hopefully it appears in a few days.

I went to Vegas early August.  I had originally planned on going in June but family matters made me delay my trip until August.  It was so late I almost considered going to Reno again, but wasn't planning on a big run of the houses near Reno this trip, so went to Vegas any way.  Next year I plan to take a week long big blast in Reno with a trip up to Elko.

I will say I doubt I will go to Vegas in August again, too blasted hot, but then again I wasn't outside that much other than going between casinos near MGM.  I did quite good gambling so decided to take a trip to Pahrump, and spend some of my winnings at one of the two houses there, and eventually partied with Bailey at Sheris.  Details are in the review.

Vegas was really dead, at lot worse than I expected, but for some reason you couldn't tell it by the traffic on Las Vegas Blvd.  My last trip to Vegas was about 2 years ago before the economy fell when Vegas was running high.  Then it was quite easy to travel up and down Las Vegas Blvd and go from casino to casino by car. Two years later with the casinos dead, Saturday night looked as crowded as a normal Tuesday afternoon, but for some reason Las Vegas Blvd was a parking lot.  I was basically stuck at the southern end of the strip.  Which was good because it wasn't that hard to get to the freeway to head towards Pahrump.  If I had been more in the middle of the strip I probably wouldn't have made the drive out to Sheri's.

1 word: Construction.

The southern end has been hellish since they started work on City Center and the Blvd @ Harmon.

Does this mean that we should set a place at dinner for you on our pre-LPIN Gathering Elko Expedition?  It would be great to have you join us.

TT,

Sounds like you had a great time in spite of the traffic. I never use LVB when I'm out there, the "back roads" are much better in most cases. Especially since they've got Frank Sinatra Blvd (the eastern frontage road to I-15) done up to the middle of the Strip. You have to know your way around Sin City to take advantage of such non-tourist streets, but if you do you can skirt a lot of the hellish traffic.

Bailey of Sheri's, huh? She's fairly new there, but I've noticed her photos nonetheless... very, very hot! I look forward to reading your field report.

Best regards,

Koval (East of the strip) is also a quicker route.  On the west side of I-15, one could take Industrial.

Unless your pre-LPIN Gathering is sometime in late May early June, I can't attend.  I try to plan my vacations in either May/Jun and Sept/Oct of the year.  This year was an exception.

I try to skip LVB also except in off hours, however the alternate routes I know of were also backed up.  I probably need to learn better ones, but only visiting once every three or four years does make it a bit hard to do so.

For recent, first time visitors to LV, the former Industrial Rd was renamed as Dean Martin Blvd a few years ago.

South of either Twain or Flamingo it's Dean Martin.  North of Flamingo or Twain, it's still Industrial Rd.  Just to be technically correct.  Which is the best kind...  ;D

OK, I knew that, but had forgotten (and didn't double check in my atlas). Yes, north of Twain (about where it crosses under I-15) it's still officially Industrial Rd. On October 7, 2005, the portion south of Twain was renamed in honor of Dean Martin.

Ah yes good old Industrial Road, been down it many a time, while in route to the toy store (as we called the ham radio shop).

I've enjoyed the downtown experience at night with the light shows and various other street happenings. One artist did some very interesting paintings using spray can paints.
