Well, to me a red light district would be individual brothels owned by independent owners.

I kind of agree. 4 brothels doesn't make a red light district. I would agree with the definition below because it would contain a lot more than just 4 brothels. It would have a lot of sex type businesses. Also it's a district. A part of an urban area carved out to contain all the sex businesses. This is the desert. Elko is much more suited to what a red light district is.

It's just a marketing term here. Most people have never actually seen one.

A red-light district is a part of an urban area where a concentration of prostitution and sex-oriented businesses, such as sex shops, strip clubs, adult theaters, etc. are found. The term originates from the red lights that were used as signs of brothels.

so my definition from another thread was close. I require food, booze, hotel and.. fun  ;)   4 seems like a bare minimum, but I don't know if I would require the sex shops,  or the Adult theaters.   just me on this one.

When I first partook in LPIN the Moundhouse Cul De sac had 4 hopping houses with at least 20 ladies in each house. Sagebrush 1 and Sagebrush 2, Kit kat Rancch and Miss Kitty's Cat House.  The Moonlight had not risen to the prominence it now commands and it had 10-15 ladies at least.   Then you would head back toward Reno, travel east on I80 and get off at Exit 23 to find Mustang Ranch and Mustang Ranch #2 and Old Bridge Ranch.  between those 3 establishements you could find over 100 ladies on a good weekend. In Moundhouse almost another 100 ladies.  Each place was a Red Light District in its own way.  Paupers and high rollers alike, Joe Sixpacck and Thurston Howell III be elbow to elbow at any of the establishments.
And much like Shooter described, Winnemucca was hopping wih the Line.  Probably the best Line memories can come from Sidewinder describing his favorite impressions. Sidey has documented in well in past posts. Then Winnemucca to Wells was one big Redlight District for Mike Dallas.  If he had $1200 in his wallet he knew he had eating money and at least 10 parties under his belt (at the very least, and he loved a house minimum more than any of us love our hour deluxe).  Mike Dallas is a true CWM legend and an amazing character I miss sorely.

Back in the day, $1200 dollars was more like 18 parties.   Mike use to fly into Reno and then hop the rails to points east. He never had a problem getting where he wanted to go. He use to use  The Red lion gambler's junket to fly into Elko which was really a bargain at the time.   He use to tell me about catching the train back to Reno from Elko and Winnemucca. He said when the train came through Winnemucca, you had to stand out on the platform or else if the conductor didn't see anyone, he wouldn't bother stopping and you would have to wait another day for the next train to come through. I'll never forget the CWM party at the old bridge ranch where I heard someone calling my name but couldn't see who it was until I get closer. Here was Mike Dallas in the middle of 3 of the tallest women I ever seen with a shit eating grin that went from ear to ear.

BTW: The Red Lion in Elko is really nice.  A great Buffet along with a small show room that books some great entertainment at reasonable prices and a nice casino.

100% on board. As a guy who travels to regularly to Amsterdam for work, saying Carson City or anywhere in the US is a red light district is a farce. Sex shops, live sex shows, peep shows, strip clubs, sex museums, + offerings for EVERYONE=Red Light District. Plus, there are so many bachelor parties and divorce parties there that it is crazy like Vegas in some places.

A cul de sac that honestly is dead half of the time doesn't fit the definition.

Elko
In Elko = 3 1/2 hrs from major airport
All houses within a few steps of each other
All affordable ladies
Smaller overall number to choose from
Multiple house owners

Moundhouse
45 min from major airport
3 of 4 houses within a few steps of each other 4th less than mile away
Prices range from affordable to outrageous
2-3 X more ladies to choose from
One house owner

Its exactly 34 minutes to the airport and if the truth be known its probably 4 to 5 times the number of girls

It's apples and oranges.... One is a monopoly, like a corporate chain, and the houses no longer truly have their own distinct individual styles.  The other is more like a small town main street with individual shops.  One has other things within walking distance and the other nothing but the houses.  Not passing judgement... Noting observations.

IMO they are red light districts no I haven't been to Elko but from what I hear they both fit the bill. Not like the ones in Europe no but Americas red light districts yes. l'm sure they both do well not knocking one over the other.  Though I would say because of the proximity to the airport/Reno area Mound house is more convieniant.  Also just IMO the 4 mound house houses do each have their own atmosphere and vibe and mix of ladies.

They can't fit the bill of an American Red Light district because there isn't any to compare to. It's a district because it's in an urban area with other districts. Technically neither fit the description so they aren't real red light districts. Elko probably has a lead simply because there other things around. Sorry but Moundhouse is not a red light district. It's 4 brothels in the desert and nothing else.

...and since the truth IS known about Elko county brothels, there ARE about 2-3 times the number of "AFFORDABLE" ladies working in Elko county compared to Moundhouse!  Like I said in a prior post elsewhere on this forum, "affordability" of parties with the LPIN ladies is a BIG part of determining which "Red Light District" to visit.
