Claymore--way to be candid with the staff over at Stockmen's. The brothels undoubtedly bring money to the hotels in this town and a variety of other businesses. The fact that many of the locals seem super cool and on board with LPIN in their community is one of the things that I've always loved about Elko. Acting like this is a normal thing (which it is) helps reduce the stigma little by little.

There’s also tax revenue, both from the brothels and the other businesses that someone may support while in town.

Just speculation but I think the subject of tax revenue from the brothels in Lyon County played a major part in the downfall of the referendum to ban the brothels in Lyon County.

I would imagine many of the people in Elko look at the brothels and immediately think of the lower taxes that it gets them.

Also (it’s kind of a dumb thing to argue about but I’ll just make this comment), I certainly do understand that a refundable room might be needed for many people. I guess there’s always a small risk, but I’ve booked a non refundable room at Stockmens while standing in line for airport security on my way to Elko. Still non refundable but after verifying the status of my flight the chances of me not making it to Elko that night are next to nothing. Just something to think about, unless there’s a big event in town that week, as long as you book before 5-6pm (when many travelers will start to pull off I-80 for the night) there’s no reason they shouldn’t have a room for you.

I did a Google review and mentioned that it is a short walk to the local legal brothels. I always stay there. I like the coffee shop, the bar and the small casino. For breakfast i usually get the chicken fried steak with eggs, if i have lunch or dinner there is usually a special, although I'm inclined to get the prime rib special at Gold Dust West.

I joined the Gold Dust West casino players club and they sent me an offer of two free nights at their Hampton Inn hotel across the parking lot from the casino. It's a new place, more expensive than Stockmen's, but I no longer get the free offers, so I will be staying at Stockmen's this July for awards week. And then go to Reno the next weekend.

I'll toss this out there for whatever value it might be. Some years back many regular mongers switched to other places as at the time Stockmen's rooms were not that good as the place seemed to be going down hill. This was prior management/owners before Ramada took over and has by some accounts been upgrading the place although by some slowly. I did the switch going to Thunderbird not that much more of a walk and the rooms for me have been good. They have a small breakfast kind of thing of light eating which fits my need.

Others have gone to various other places which tend to fit their needs or desires better. Will they again as will I to Stockmen's is an open question, yes for many years I did stay at Stockmen's.

I drive into town. lot can happen on the road. I think the last two times I have booked I did it while in Elko. once even in the parking lot, and last time when I got into town (before check in) and got lunch first.
