Trying once again to learn from past mistakes and to add some extra info:

My initial thoughts about the Reno area: It is absolutely a desert, except it rained and stormed a lot while I was there, the temperature wasn’t that hot in late July, and I could see snow on top of the mountains in the background.  What I didn’t see, though, is grass, trees, nor much anything green.  Northern Nevada almost seems to be the Bizarro world version of my area which is green flatland with lots of trees and temperatures 15-20 degrees higher.  I was really impressed with Reno itself.  The city is very well planned out with pretty easy traffic access to just about anywhere you need to go.  I stopped for lunch at Pho 777 in the Downtown Casino district and it was some of the best, most authentic Pho I have had in quite a while and it was super cheap too.  I’ve decided that I’m going to spend more time exploring Reno on my next trip. It seems to have quite a bit of culture packed into a small city area.  I also want to explore Lake Tahoe soon.  I had planned on doing so this trip but time wasn't on my side.

I stayed at the Gold Dust West in Carson City and it was a good choice.  The room was clean, spacious, had a mini fridge, and included super-fast free wifi and breakfast.  I did find out that the brothel client discount is no longer $69 but is now $80 but it is still a massive bargain.  The hotel bill actually ended up being less than my car rental bill and that is pretty unusual.

I was in and out of all four Mound House brothels quite a bit between my party, bringing and sharing a birthday cake with ladies and staff, and a few non-party meetings I had with ladies for potential future parties.  One impression that struck me the most about my visits to the houses was at how wonderful and gracious every staff member was to me.  Those people are salt of the earth and often the unsung heroes of the business.  I tried to show my appreciation by tipping generously.

I had such a really great time on my visit and am already planning my next visit which hopefully will include meeting a few ladies that I missed last week.  By some stroke of anti-luck, half of the ladies that I was hoping to meet and share birthday cake with were away the entire time I was there.  I guess that is just more incentive to make my next trip sooner than later.

Question for the locals and veterans: what do you think is the best authentic sushi restaurant in the Reno/Carson City area?  I was a little disappointed with the place I ended up trying on this trip.  I used to have a go to place when I visited Las Vegas (Hamada in the Flamingo) that serviced a lot of Japanese tourists and the stuff was basic but authentic, the way I like it.  Any ideas?

Yeah, summer thunderstorms happen sometimes. It sucks though because they often cause wildfires.

There are a lot of sushi places in Reno, they are all I've know though so I don't know about authenticity. Personally when I go out for AYCE sushi I'll go to either Sushi Pier I & II or one of the Ijji restaurants. People always talk about Hiroba, Ichiban and Rickshaw's. Heard the place in the Atlantis is good too.

Seems to be the case anywhere most any time.  The ladies are there to work when they are there.  Oh, many of them would love some birthday cake or some pizza or whatever someone brings.  I do it, but try to understand that the ladies will be busy or not there much of their time.

Jade recommended some sushi place, I believe it was TOMO.  So many Japanese visit Vegas that they have more reason to offer better sushi.

I don't know about the best Sushi in the area.  But there is a very good Sushi place off of HWY 50 (the road that you travel on and turn off of to go to the MLBR or to the cul-de-sac of brothels.  http://www.keisushi.com/menu.html.  It is convenient to the brothels, has good food.  I have eaten there at least 5 times.  They have It is in a little strip of shops that also includes a decent Mexican restaurant and an Adam & Eve's.  About a hundred yards away there is a CVS Pharmacy, which has a wide variety of odds and ends.  If you are staying at the Gold Dust in Carson City, the Sushi place is about 7 minutes away between the Gold Dust and the brothels.

I'm kind of an admitted sushi snob because I grew up in a Japanese family eating sushi in the late 70's-early 80's before the craze hit the greater US.  Some of the things that I really crave aren't on the menu in the trendy sushi places.  When I can find good natto maki, umeshiso maki, and Shiro Maguro Nigiri at a place, I lock into them.  Hamada's was that place in LV for decades but they have now closed down.

As mentioned Kie's is good http://www.keisushi.com/menu.html.

Kim Lee's near old town Carson City is very good too http://www.kimleesushi.com/. Kim Lee's has several offerings with a unique citrus twist. Definitely worth a try.

Great post, Catrina.

Do you think Kim Lee's is better than Kie?'

How much  further is it from the bunny ranch?

It would be a simple matter for me to plug it all in on my home computer for right now my Internet is down and I'm doing this all from my iPhone — which makes it a huge pain in the ass.

Drive the extra 1.5 hours to Hiros Sushi in Truckee if you can- really, its that good. Absolutely incredible to say the least; their caterpillar roll is done up to look like a caterpillar. The restaurant is covered with head shots of the famous folks who have eaten there. I'm not one to hype a place based off of celebrity appeal, but this place is legitimately a big deal.

For local sushi, i'll vouch for Kim Lee's over Kei. Much better variety, they use many traditional techniques (any place that makes their own eel sauce makes me smile), and the service is top quality.

It's now 1 am, and I want sushi. This is your fault.

Sorry Alice.  If it make you feel any better, I crave sushi practically 24/7/265.25 and live in a sushi desert.  I'll look up Hiros for sure.  If they can make my faves with fresh ingredients, it's worth the drive for me and maybe an earlier than expected return to Northern Nevada.

If anyone on this side of the country can do it, they can. On several occasions i've driven up there just for sushi, then turned right back around. (Sushi craving update: 7:41 am, still want sushi  :D )

Definitely worth the drive, and if you have the time to do the west side scenic drive of Lake Tahoe on your way over do it.

I also like the Sushi at the Peppermill.

I like them both. Kim's is only a couple miles further on, it is one of the few restaurants open on Monday's in Carson.

So after looking up Hiro Sushi in Kings Beach, I realized that the place must have made quite an impression on Alice to recommend a place where she couldn't legally be taken on an outdate.  Thanks for the advice!  I'll give them a call before my next trip and see if they can make my favorites for me.

Next time you have got to venture your self a little more. I am like you about nature and green as in Brazil everything is so green and colorful.
Even in the winter when there is snow everywhere, you will get to see pine trees and gorgeous landscape. I had the same thoughts when I first got here in 2011, but as I explore more and more, North Nevada has so much to offer.
