Title: Take out in Carson City
Post by: She Ra on July 10, 2011, 02:32:36 PM
I was recently in the states for the first time. I ate at In and Out Burger. I have to say that I loved it! I don't generally eat take out or much meat, but that was one tasty burger! What do you think? :)

Central Park burgers are better... they appear to be a dying breed however!  The ones in Utah have mostly/completely disappeared!  Dunno if Nevada has any, there are none on the website.

KelF,

Great to see you posting a bit over here.  Yep, In & Out makes a very tasty burger.  Did you get it "Animal style".  Did you try the fresh made fries too?

Did you get to sample anymore of the local cuisine while you were here visiting Bunnyland?

I've never had an In-And-Out Burger although I'd like to try one.   From there website it looks like the closest one to Boston is Texas.   Long way to go for a burger.     While I'm here I'll say that I've never had a Central Park America burger either, as mentioned by Oddball in another post.

Yeah, I joined here last year, but don't come on here as often as the other site. I find it a bit harder to navigate. I had a cheeseburger. But it was damn good! I went to a frozen yogurt place across the parking lot, it was really tasty. I also went to a chinese restaurant which was good, but I don't recall the name.  :)

I have a stop planned at a Salt Lake City In-N-Out on my way to Elko. I never knew about their "secret menu" until I Googled the animal style I've seen referenced here. My next order will be animal style with animal fries.

My favorite burger of all time!  Single cheeseburger animal style, and fries animal style!!  I'm from So. Cal, and when they opened up here in Nevada the line for burgers was a mile long! (ok, maybe not a mile, but it was a Very long line!)

I've never been so fortunate as to have an In-n-Out burger, but their reputation is sterling. For what it's worth, the August issue of Consumer Reports scores In-n-Out as best with a reader rating of 88 (out of 100). Burgerville and Five Guys Burgers and Fries tied for second with an 83 rating. Oddly, White Castle holds the #4 spot with a 78, which made me wonder if the respondents had ever actually had one. Sure, sometimes White Castle scratches an itch that not much else can reach but you'd be hard-pressed to call it 'good'.

Burger of your choice with hand leafed lettuce, tomato, a mustard cooked beef patty, add a pickle, extra spread, with grilled onions.

Animal fries

All the stuff that's on an animal style burger, dumped on fries instead.

All of these posts about In N' Out Burgers is getting me hungry  :D ...but the sad part is that there are none in my neck of the woods.  >:(

I recently tried Five Guys Burgers which have popped up all over the Chicago area.  Their burgers are okay, but I like In N' Out's much better.  8)

Mine is a small local place in Northern UT if in the area. Its on the old highway so mostly you need to know or local to the area. They raise and process their own beef, yes it can be purchased and the place has both drive-in and cafe sit down eating. The burgers are of decent size at reasonable price. Its been some time since I last ate there and last I'd heard was still open.

That's the place oddball. Great burgers.  Guess a few might know of it, another place for a good deep dish pie (severed hot and labout the size of a large soup bowel ) is the Red Baron there at the junction with the road going to Logan.

Sonic!   Now you're talkin'!  Try the jalapeño double cheeseburger.  It's about 5000 calories but worth every one.   Sonic Drive Ins originated in Shawnee Oklahoma and their original catch phrase was "Service at the speed of sound".

Here is a link to Sonic where you can take a peek at what they are like. Just a general rundown if you don't wanna look (haha), It's a drive in type food place. (you park by one of their signs and order there...it's not a drive through fast food place necessarily) They bring your food out to you (sometimes even on skates!!) and will either place it on your window (like a tray that will sit on the window of your car) but that is not every time OR just bring it out and hand it to you. I like the friendly old school style of it.

We don't have any Sonic's in my neck of the woods either, but I've been to the one in Pahrump on a few occasions.  ;D   I took a look at their menu and it's nice that they expanded their "dog" lineup.  :D   As I recall, the only one they use to have was that foot long Coney Dog which didn't impress me very much when I tried one ...LOL.

The best cheeseburger & fries I ever had were at the Dew Drop Inn in Hot Springs, South Dakota. They are a road-side burger joint with no inside seating (at least there was no inside seating back in the mid '90s... might be different now days if it's still there).

They had two walk-up order/pick-up windows and a couple of picnic tables out front.  The parking area was plain dirt but quite ample. Even a semi could park there.

I was staying at motel a little down and across the road. I asked the desk clerk where was the best place to eat. She pointed out the window at the Dew Drop Inn and said, "There."

So... I hiked over & ordered two cheeseburgers, fries & a coke. I took 'em back to my room & was really surprised a great buger like that could be found in, basically, a hole-in-the-wall road-side stand.

The best burger I've ever had was in the early 70s at the old Thunderbird Drive In in El Reno, Oklahoma.   I suspect it doesn't exist anymore but their cheeseburger and onion rings were to die for.

How many recall the old A & W drive-ins? Back a few years had some good burgers at one located in a small Kansas/Mo town on a 2-lane highway. Just don't recall the name of the town been too many years.

The second best hamburger I ever had was in Indiana during the summer
of 1976 at a McDs of all places.
I think it was a test burger because when I returned to the upper midwest
where I was living at the time I couldn't find it and never heard of it again,
it was called a "McFeast",
built on a pastry style bun it was huge, made with sliced tomatoes,
fresh lettuce and all the other goodies a real hamburger should have.
It really was a damn good hamburger.

BTW, the best hamburger I ever had was the one I made last month
on the grill.  :)

I have had both In-n-Out burger on the west coast and Five Guys on the East coast. They are very similar in both menu, quality of food and the general feel of the restaurant, but I think In-n-Out is a little bit better than Five Guys. I actually prefer Fuddruckers to either, We have them up and down the east coast but I am not sure if they go out west.

I tried In-n-Out burger was I was out in Reno last. It was OK the price was reasonable, but for taste I'll still take the Smashburger at work. The best burger I ever had was from a bar and grill in Newark NJ that we used to get at work, then one day one of the guys that went to go pick it up one day saw the cook in action and needless to say we stopped going after he reported back :o. I guess the moral is don't think while you're eating ;D

We have a Fuddruckers here in Reno and I've eaten there and at the one in Tulsa.   Both times I thought it was a very pedestrian burger, just grilled hamburger with no flavorings added to the meat.   Honestly, I can throw a pattie on the grill and spice it up better and even add my own toppings which seems to be the big selling point for Fuddruckers.

Please provide more information about where that burger place was?

If you are near Newark you must have tried Rutts Hut or Clifton Grill?
