I often get asked about the local restaurants in Elko so I though this might be helpful to all.....

This list is by all means not a complete list but rather a few that came to mind.

Thanks for that list, Peter.  I will definitely try a new place the next time I am out there.

Let me throw in a rec for Gold Dust West.  It isn't gourmet by any means (quality is on par with a Denny's imo), but it's good food, big portions, and a fair price.  You get a free piece of pie (get your minds out of the gutter) with every purchase of $10 after 11:30 AM.  Most importantly for us, is the surcharge free ATM in the casino. 8)

Costa Vida is also pretty good.  A little different in the offerings, but roughly comparable to a Chipotle.  Fast casual Mexican food.   For the coffee nuts out there, there are also two Starbucks.  One by the Smith's supermarket and the other inside the Red Lion Hotel and Casino.  I've also tried the blind onion pizza and it is damn good.  Definitely better than the big chain stuff.  The fast food stuff is also all there: McDonald's, Subway, Wendy's, Jack in the Box, BK if that's what you are hankering for.

I went to Toki Ona last time I was in Elko and it was very good. It's similar to The Star but service is a little faster and it's a little cheaper. That plus Jack in the Box are my go tos.

Has anybody tried the Roberto's in Elko? I'm wondering if it's similar to the ones in Vegas and San Diego. The menu looks similar and it is open 24 hours.

When I rode into Elko for medical on Monday-- the other girls just raved and raved about Toki Ona... apparently the owner there used to be the chef at The Star.

I'm looking forward to trying it at some point.  My great uncle is Basque... and I haven't had good Basque food in quite some time.

Hope I'm not asking a stupid question  ??? But, what is Basque? Is it a way of life/style? Or, is it like being Irish  :)

Basque people are an Ethnic group from Spain. Basque country is a semi autonomous area in north central Spain and south west France.

Spain's history in some ways is like the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland) and made of several ancient kingdoms that formed what is now modern Spain. Ethnic nationalism is on the rise and some people advocate for separation especially in Catolonia portion of Spain.
